I’m on a bit of a budget but need a laptop for 3D modeling—mostly working with models in SketchUp and doing some light rendering in 3ds Max. I’ve found a couple of i7 processor laptops in my price range, but I’m unsure if they’ll be powerful enough for 3D tasks.

I’d like to hear if anyone’s used an i7 processor laptop for 3D modeling at a moderate level of complexity—perhaps for architectural models or small product designs. Does an i7 processor laptop provide smooth performance, or do I need a more powerful processor for better speed and rendering times?
